Storytelling Challenge
Write a 4 sentence story in less than 5 minutes.
I'll bet it looks like this:
Both made in Keynote with YouTube copyright free soundtracks. One in a short summer school for Elementary (left) the other taken on as an independent film for a philosophy class in Middle School.

Once students start putting together their stories with digital media you lose them.
Get the story polished and reflected upon FIRST!
You may, however, find that students will self-edit once they see their stories.

Ms. Moon Wouldn't Like That! A Keynote to Video to Apple Store PhotoBook Collaboration

Weekend with #geekdad. Inspired by Piggie & Gerald of Mo Willems fame, Maya and I collaborated on a little project. I am going to go and publish this as a book via Photos on my Mac now. #neveradullmoment

"Beat the learning curve. Make the first one personal."

"If the narrative carries itself we will put up with poor production values."

"The image gives you the information, the music tells you how to feel about it."

Notes

  • Students write better when they can use their bodies / incorporate movement into they creative process
  • You can use zoom-ins and other effects but never use the same effect too often in any presentation or video

Made to reinforce and extend learning with a kindergarten child as assisted homework. The focus for the child was on content while any chance to assist in the development of the Keynote-to-YouTube project was a definite hook that added to the entrenching of neural net pathway connections and started building some initial understanding of the use of both slideshows and the laptop.
