Photography 101

Whether you are a teacher or not...
you probably take photos

Charged with producing the yearbook for a couple of years, I decided to make this short tutorial to help teachers with a professional development opportunity they would likely not have otherwise...

taking better photos.

We all take them all the time but we don't all learn how to take better photos.

I hope this is helpful.

Perspective

Change it up

Bird's eye view: Go above

Worm's eye view: Get to the ground

Subject's eye view: What do they see?

The Rule of Thirds

Use this convention to draw attention to important details or to manage the flow of "eye traffic."

Get Closer

Take a picture.
Get closer.
Take the next one.
Get closer.
Take the next one.
Get closer.
Getting the picture?

BONUS TIP: Focus on one point of your subject. Find the amazing details and capture them to share.

DON'T Centre Everything!

Off-centre creates a repeating view pattern highlighting your subject.
